Julien Awarded Canada Research ChairALS researcher Dr. Jean-Pierre Julien has been awarded a Canada Research Chair. Dr. Julien, who recently moved his lab from Montreal to the University of Laval in Quebec City, will receive $1.4 million over seven years to continue his search for new medications to treat ALS.
Dr. Julien is also supported by the ALS Society through the neuromuscular research partnership. His research has shown in mice that specific drug cocktails can delay onset of the disease.
Canada Research Chairs are awarded to researchers acknowledged as world leaders in their field. The government of Canada program allows researchers to gain access to state of the art research facilities and to mentor and train the next generation of graduate students.
Dr. John Roder, of Toronto, also funded by the ALS Society, was named a Canada Research Chair in 2002. Dr. Brian Robinson and Dr. Bryan A. Stewart, both of the University of Toronto with interests in ALS research also hold Canadian Research Chairs.
