Ottawa Regional ALS Conference

The ALS Society of Ontario, Champlain Region and the Rehabilitation Centre, Ottawa are pleased to announce their first one-day interactive conference for people affected by ALS: families, friends, volunteers; professional caregivers and therapists.

The Conference will be held on Thursday, June 17th at the Hellenic Community Centre in Ottawa, 1315 Prince of Wales Drive. A programme covering from 08:45 AM to 3:30 is planned, but will be structured so that people with ALS could benefit by attending for part of the day. Key parts of the programme will be presented in both official languages.

"This conference will be a great opportunity to meet other people with ALS and caregivers, and to exchange ideas. Participants will be able to ask questions of key note speakers and an expert panel and to hear about the latest research from leading Canadian specialists and scientists in the field of ALS.," says organizer, Patricia Van Loan.

The keynote speakers will be: Dr. Jean-Pierre Julien, a Canada Research Chair on Neurodegeneration and one of the leading ALS researchers in North America; Dr. Pierre Bourque, an eminent neurologist and ALS specialist, and Dr. Douglas McKim, a leading respirologist and expert in the management of ALS respiratory issues. The expert panel will cover other topics including palliative care, community-based services, communication issues, spiritual care and the view from the perspective of an ALS patient and family.

For further details and registration forms please call the Champlain Regional Office at (613) 820-2267.
