Betty's Run for ALS is Online
On June 14, 2009, Albertans will once again be running, or walking, for Betty. This will mark the twelfth year they have come together in memory of Betty Norman, a Calgary woman who passed away from ALS in August 1997, 2 weeks after the fundraising event she spearheaded, and 11 months after she was diagnosed with ALS.To honour Betty’s courage and determination, and to pay tribute to all Albertans who have been affected by this devastating disease, the organizing committee of that first event unanimously resolved to hold the Betty’s Run for ALS every year.
Betty’s Run has become the cornerstone of the fundraising initiatives of the ALS Society of Alberta, which receives no federal or provincial funding and has to rely on other sources of income to achieve their goal of reaching and assisting all Albertans living with ALS.
The ALS Society of Alberta is pleased to announce today, February 10, 2009, the launch of a new Betty’s Run web site, www.bettysrun.ca which will make it easier for Albertans to make a difference in the lives of people living with ALS. Once participants have registered for the run, they can set up personalized, easy-to-use web sites and invite their family, friends and co-workers to make direct online donations.
