Workplace Fundraisers

Workplace Fundraisers

By planning your own fundraising event for the ALS Canada, such as a company picnic, or casual Fridays, you can have fun while making a difference in the fight against ALS. Funds raised through your office events or activities will fund breakthrough research into the causes, treatments and a cure for ALS. It is also a great way to build team spirit while raising awareness of this devastating disease.

Need a head start? Here are two great ideas that are fun and easy to do.

*Please note that ALS Canada is only able to provide charitable receipts for monetary donations received, as per Canada Revenue Agency guidelines. Tax receipts are not issued for funds collected in exchange for a good or service. For more information on these guidelines and what can and cannot be receipted, please contact us at 1-800-267-4257 x 228.

Tea Time

Everyone needs a break now and then from their busy work schedule. Creating an office “Tea Time” is an easy way to raise funds and does not require a lot of organization. Participants at these events make a donation in exchange for a cup of tea. You can also offer coffee and juice, and add cookies or pastries to increase donations.

As an organizer, you can designate a specific period of time (such as a week or a month) in which you promote this event to your colleagues and collect donations for their ability to participate in a 20 to 30-minute Tea Time break. You can set a minimum donation amount if you need to use some of the funds raised to purchase the refreshments or leave it up to your colleagues’ discretion. We can also create a fundraising web page for the event for easy online fundraising.

Gathering everyone for a break is a fun way to bring staff together for a good cause. ALS Canada is happy to provide educational and awareness materials for distribution as you promote the event among staff. Please contact us for more information.

Jeans Day

Many workplaces participate in Casual Fridays or hold a Jeans Day now and then. Why not do it for a cause that is near and dear to your heart? Holding a Jeans Day works great for busy offices and those who have limited time to plan a bigger event.

If your office already participates in Casual Fridays, an easy way to raise funds is to classify another day in the month (other than a Friday) as an ALS Awareness Day and encourage people to donate funds in exchange for being allowed to wear jeans. If your office does not have Casual Fridays regularly, you can speak to your employer about implementing this as a once a month fundraiser.

Of course, nothing stops you from doing this more frequently than once a month, but you will want to be mindful of your colleagues and their ability to donate more frequently, and your employer and their ability to allow people to wear jeans. ALS Canada is happy to provide educational and awareness materials for distribution as you promote the event among staff.
