Discovery Grants competition – launching today!

May 7, 2021 – Together with the Brain Canada Foundation, the ALS Society of Canada is excited to announce the continuation of their much-valued partnership with a $1-million Discovery Grants competition – launching today!

Since 2014, ALS Canada’s partnership with Brain Canada has resulted in more than $23 million being invested in leading-edge ALS research that has helped further the study of the disease. The Discovery Grant Program is designed to fuel the innovation that will accelerate our understanding of #ALS, identify pathways for future therapies and optimize care to improve the quality of life for people and families affected by this devastating disease.

We are grateful to our donors and partners whose generosity has enabled us to launch this competition during a time when health research funding is so challenged.

Evidence clearly shows that increasing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in research environments enhances excellence, innovation and creativity. Brain Canada and ALS Canada are committed to excellence through equity and encourage applicants of diverse backgrounds to apply to our funding opportunities.

The Discovery Grants competition has been made possible by Brain Canada, through the Canada Brain Research Fund, an innovative partnership between the Government of Canada (through Health Canada) and Brain Canada, and the generosity of provincial ALS Societies, ALS Canada donors and community-based efforts, including proceeds from the #WalktoEndALS. With this support, the ALS Canada Research Program can continue the momentum achieved over the last several years and provide sustainable funding for ALS research in Canada at a time when it’s more important than ever before.

Applications are being accepted until July 5, 2021 (13:00 ET). All proposals that meet eligibility criteria will be peer-reviewed by a panel of international ALS experts in order to fund projects with the greatest potential to make a difference in creating a future without ALS.
